The Gift of Giving. Here’s Comes Santa Kitty

The Friday Foto Frenzy is being preempted for something way more important. It will return next week—same cat time, same cat channel. In November, a bunch of blogging cats got together to decide what to do for fellow kittehs for the holidays. We’d heard unofficial official rumors that the elves weren’t prepared to do the annual Santa Paws Drive for homeless and shelter kitties which turned out to be false. A plan was devised. Summer at Sparklecat.com got things rolling. Her human designed the above badge and shared our plan on her blog.

We decided we would all donate to our local shelters and make kitties all over the world happy this year. We’d write about it and encourage our readers to do the same. Think how great it would be to have humans bringing gifts to shelter kitties worldwide! There’ a blog hop at the end so you can read the other inspirational stories and enter your own. Hope this post inspires you to give!

Here’s our story. At least twice every year, we put a “care” package together for our friend Linda at A Call 4 Paws Rescue. Our usual winter package is usually ready for Linda around February. This year, we called her a little early. Could she do a pickup this week?

In case you’ve missed my previous posts about A Call 4 Paws, they’re a Jersey City, NJ, based rescue but they also have a four-acre cat sanctuary in Pennsylvania housing 70 feral cats. Most of these cats are unsocialized. A Call 4 Paws offers them a free-roaming facility and where they can be safe as they roam outside or inside. There are sucess stories where the cats are socialized and find forever homes. One of the kitties from my first post found a forever home!

I’m axing for your help if you have any extra green papers. The roof of the indoor cat house at the sanctuary is in dire need of repair before this winter gets worse. They’ve started a Fundly fundraising page with a modest goal of $5000 to cover materials and labor. The fundraiser ends in 10 days.

Why do we have to give her this cat tree that I love?

We put together a package of cat food, treats, toys, a cat bed, automatic dish detergent, litter, pillows and even one of my cat trees. (TW said I couldn't keep all four cos I’m only one cat.) I must admit I didn’t have much Christmas spirit until I saw how elated Linda was and realized the cats would be just as happy. Linda was thrilled when she saw the loot, especially with the cat tree, toys and detergent. She’s just taken in a litter of foster kittens that she was sure would love the toys.

Get social with A Call 4 Paws on Facebook and Twitter.

Linda and some of our donation. Cat not included.

Helping shelter kitties isn’t a chore for me. I remember when I was a shelter kitty myself. Now, I’m in a position to help others so they can live a more comfortable life. We’re not financially rich but helping others makes us rich in other ways. Next week, TW is bringing some of my favorite slightly used toys for the Maple cats. Sadly, they weren’t taken in after they were neutered but they do have a feed station, water, and a little igloo on the porch. TW still feeds them when she walks by and the little gray tabby runs alongside her telling her he’s hungry.

My other good news is the rescue Aunt Karen volunteers with and foster for in Florida got an early Christmas present. Brooke's Legacy Animal Rescue won $25,000 in Petco Foundation’s ‪#‎HolidayWishes2014‬ in honor of Hansa Rose finally getting her furever home. We did a post about Hansa Rose several years ago on this blog.

  5. Congrats to Hansa Rose, that is wonderful news!
There are 2 stray kitties that have became regulars here. We built little houses for them and feed them daily. Unfortunately we do not have T&R program here yet, but soon I hope, the shelters are too full to take them, so I have been looking out for them. I think it's wonderful that you help out the way you do. Your a good kitty CK!

  19. You are AWESOME --but then I already knew that!

Re my post today: It was MEANT to be offensive, but only to **California weather wusses** who parleyed a totally ordinary rainstorm into some ridiculous drama. It's winter. It rains. Get over it! San Francisco actually CLOSED the SCHOOLS!!! I think someone may possibly have broken a nail when they slipped in a puddle! It was, like, the nuttiest overreaction ever. I guess their brains have gotten all wizened up during the drought. Sigh. Humans.

  21. Mom plans to put goodies together at the beginning of the week for the local shelter. You were so generous C.K. to give up one of your cat towers. Those kitties are going to be so excited to have it to play on. Mom will go and give some green papers for the new roof.
